On Wednesday, 1st April, EurEau joined seven other organisations in sending Commissioner Jessika Roswall a letter calling for a thorough economic assessment of the planned Water Framework Directive revision. Other signatories included representatives of water services, services of general interest, seashell producers, mineral waters and the drinks sector. These sectors depend on Europe’s water resources to contribute to produce food and drinks, supply wholesome drinking water and serve local communities.
In the joint letter, we call on the Commission to carefully consider the potential consequences for water-dependent economic sectors arising from any changes to the current legal framework. A robust and stable water framework is not only an environmental safeguard but also a structural condition for significant parts of the European economy to thrive, invest, and contribute to the Union’s competitiveness and strategic autonomy.
