EurEau welcomes BASF’s decision to phase out PFAS

Water news

EurEau warmly welcomes the announcement (25.11.25) that BASF will phase out PFAS use by 2028. This is great news for the environment and public health.

PFAS contamination remains one of the most persistent and costly challenges faced by society at large and water operators. Actions taken at the source are by far the most effective way to prevent these “forever chemicals” from entering the environment. BASF’s commitment represents a significant step in the right direction and reflects a growing trend across the chemical industry to move away from substances that pose long-term risks.

We are encouraged to see major market players responding to scientific evidence and investor concerns by shifting towards safer, innovative alternatives. We hope this momentum continues, and we stand ready to work with industry, regulators and stakeholders to support a rapid and comprehensive transition away from PFAS.
